ABSTRACT

The development of a light steerable transit truck was paralleled by analytical and test activities to verify design choices and validate the hardware. Although these have covered a range of topics including structural integrity, ride quality, stability, curving and trackwork design, only ride quality, stability and curving performance are considered here. The usefulness of linear analysis for the prediction of performance is limited to giving trends. Non-linearities arepnssent which have been partly included by the application of quasilinearization. The force steered design is more complex than unsteered designs due to the presence of coupled body/truck modes.
