Afewyearsago ,theargumentthatanimalrig·htswouldmeritaplace asafuturechallengeforthecosmeticindustrywouldhavebeengreetedwithpoliteskepticismifnotoutrightridicule.However,recent eventshavechangedthatview,anditisclearthatsomevocalconsumerswouldliketoseetheindustrytakeconstructiveactiononthe animaltestingissue.Therearealsoafewstudies,ofvaryingrigor anddepth,ofconsumerattitudestowardcosmetictestingonanimals. Atoneendofthescale,therearesurveysbythepopularmediasuch asGlamourmagazine.InDecember1981,Glamourpublishedtheresultsofasurveyindicatingthat84percentoftheirrespondentsopposedcosmetictestsonanimals.Amajorityoftherespondents(59 percent)statedthattheywereevenwillingtouseadrugwhichhad notbeentestedonanimals.In1974,NationalOpinionPolls(England) reportedthatthree-quartersofthesurveysampleexpressedoppositiontocosmetictestsonanimals[1].
