ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a simple strip mode synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data processing code to perform some experiments on real and/or simulated data. The program is written in the Interactive Data Language (IDL) but can be easily translated, if necessary, in any other programming language. The code represents a simple, didactic tool and no particular attention has been given to its efficient implementation. In the first step, sensor parameters necessary to compute the SAR transfer function (TF) are partly assigned and partly evaluated. Modifications required to use the code for processing other ERS-1 (or ERS-2) data sets are almost trivial. Most of the input parameters remain unchanged with the exception of the Doppler centroid value that requires an estimation. Inclusion of a Doppler centroid estimation block within the code represents a useful exercise that the reader can perform along the lines.
