ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focus on legal sex industry activities as well as some illegal activities such as sex work/prostitution that exist within the three primary spatial domains that constitute the city urban, the suburban and the sub-urban. It explains the consequences of this are: increased exploitation of women who work in the sex industry by third parties and increased risk of threatening behaviour and violence from clients. The chapter explains the politicians and policy-makers seem to deny or overlook the historical and contemporaneous role of commercial sex in the city and the urban experience. In order to uphold the rights of sexual minorities and various types of sex workers and to ensure the development of effective regulatory policies on the sex industry, it is vital that policy-makers actively engage and involve the sex industry.
