ABSTRACT

A complicated giant ductile shear system exposed in Wutaishan area of North China. It consists of three megaductile shear belts and each belt is composed of a number of small-scale parallel or low-angle intersecting shear zones. This system looks like a tensile network-type structure with about several kilometers to more than ten kilometers in width and tens of kilometers in length. Its scale is comparable to the layer or inclusion with high conductivity and lower wave velocity of middle crust from geophysical detection. Its texture is analogous to the number of reflector in “Crocodile” texture from vertical seismic reflection in the middle crust. It could be inferenced that the process of formation of giant ductile shear system would explain the phenomenon rationally from geophysical detection in active middle crust.
