Challenges in design of steel structures subjected to exceptional earthquakes

The actual codes consider the damaging earthquakes only the ones having strong accelerations. But in many cases, the structure damage was very important, even for moderate accelerations, showing that the high ground accelerations are not the alone parameter which must be considered in design. The paper presents the doubtful questions rising in steel structure design subjected to these exceptional earthquakes.
