ABSTRACT

Three steps of the experimental program of end-plate type joints are performed in a cooperation project between the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the Instituto Superior Técnico. In all the three steps of the test program bolted connections are studied under cyclic loading as the following: joints of steel columns – joints of composite columns – joints of slender composite columns. In this paper the details of the specimens, the test results and the evaluated test data are reported. Specimens are designed to study and to characterize the typical cyclic behavior modes of these types of joints. This paper has a focus on the failure mode of the slender steel and composite columns. Besides the observing the failure modes the comparison of the results and the influence of several parameters namely the column section, the influence of the concrete filling and the effect of reinforcement are presented.
