ABSTRACT

A methodology for the seismic evaluation of existing buildings with or without damages is presented. The evaluation refers to the strength, stiffness and ductility properties. Whole storeys rather than individual members are considered. The most critical storeys may be found out, indicating where any possible interventions could be made. The evaluation is based on the comparison between demand and capacity. Subsequently, an example of evaluation of a four storey steel building is presented. The results of the evaluation are compared with these of the non-linear analysis of the building.
