ABSTRACT

In this paper a design procedure is proposed for structural systems consisting of moment resisting frames with shear walls made of low yield steel panels (LYSP). In particular, seismic retrofitting of existing structures is addressed in this paper. A special design procedure is developed within the performance based design framework; therefore only monotonic (pushover) static analysis is required. However, the development of the design procedure takes into account the results of sophisticated dynamic pushover analyses conducted by the first author (De Matteis et al 2003). The whole procedure is verified through the application of monotonic analysis to realistic frame configurations.
