ABSTRACT
Polytonality and polymodality occurs when two or more elements of piece of music occur in different keys or modes simultaneously. The elements that occur in different keys or modes are usually separated by timbre, texture, or register. Each separate element typically presents a single key or mode in a very clear way, and clashes between the two keys create a contrast with elements that sound consonant with each other.
