ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the concept of parametric modeling for environmental response data. It presents examples of common parametric models for specific data settings, including polynomial and nonlinear regression models for continuous data, logistic regression models for proportion data, and log-linear regression models for count data. Within these contexts, measures of potency are introduced, including those based on median effective dose (ED50), rate of change, and initial slope. In addition, the chapter presents a framework for comparing multiple dose-response curves. There are many forms of parametric functions available to model dose response; here, only selected, simpler forms for use with environmental data are introduced.
