ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews a few case studies where a field investigation identifies a performance failure and recommends remedial measures, which include, among others, use of the Spray Polyurethane Foam. This investigation identified specific problems and recommended remedial measures concerning problems relating to condensation, corrosion, mold, and other moisture problems at a computer centre facility, located in a cold, heating climate, coded in this report as CC facility. Indoor air in the CC facility is required to have temperature of 21°C and 50 percent RH and a positive pressure. These requirements need a specific design of the building envelope. The design and operation of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems significantly affect the design, construction and performance of the building envelope. Therefore, the evaluation of a facility should be considered in terms of the building envelope, the facility's HVAC system, and the facility operation, maintenance and housekeeping protocols.
