ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the calculation of phase diagrams and lead the reader through the phase calculator program, let us return to the association equilibrium model window via the calculate menu. It assesses the binodal phase diagrams for the analogous series of Poly Vinyl Phenol (PVPh) - poly(alkyl acrylate) blends. The chapter considers the results of the calculation of three different types of miscibility "windows" or "maps" which are schematically represented in the calculation type window of the phase calculator program. It describes miscibility windows of homopolymer - copolymer systems and then copolymer - copolymer blend systems. The chapter focuses on the specific case of polymer blends where a self-associated homopolymer such as a polyamide, polyurethane, polyphenol or polyacid is mixed with a non self-associating copolymer such as styrene-co-methyl acrylate or ethylene-co-vinyl acetate. PVPh is the case for a homologous series of polymethacrylate homopolymers which may be viewed as "ethylene-co-methyl methacrylate copolymers".
