ABSTRACT
Redox is one of those catchy names invented by somebody who was not hampered by commitment to the use of scientifically correct terminology. The name is perfect, however, and it is hereby declared correct. The red stands for reduction and it signifies gain of electrons by a chemical species; the ox connotes oxidation, or electron loss by a chemical species.
