ABSTRACT

Basic ideas for the computation of the emersion of overcompensated engineering buildings in zones with regional subsidence due to piezometric drops of the water pressure caused by pumping from permeable strata at depth are presented. General equations for the compressibility of clay strata at t = tp , the EOP curve (end of primary) and at t = ∞, the EOS curve (end of secondary) are used. The computation is illustrated for an ideal typical case in Mexico City and a general equation for the evolution of the emersion is also included.
