ABSTRACT

Based on the physical properties, compressive deformation characteristics and strength parameters, the engineering properties of soft soil from the Zhan-jiang and Hai-kou sea areas, Qiong Zhou Strait, are comparatively studied in this paper. The results show that the soft soil from the Zhan-jiang sea area is a structured clay and has a certain structural strength, while the soft soil from the Hai-kou sea area is ordinary muck and has almost no structural strength. Therefore, this is the reason why during the construction of the breakwater for the Qiong Zhou Strait railway ferry project, the effect of foundation treatment on soft soils from the Zhan-jiang and Hai-kou sea areas, Qiong Zhou Strait, is different by the use of the same method of underwater explosive compaction.
