ABSTRACT

We are all acquainted with the topic of humor. Usually we think of comedians as creating humor. A sense of humor helps people see what is funny in a situation. Sometimes when bad things happen to good people, we have a hard time seeing anything funny. We all have different views of what is humorous. Many of us find it easy to laugh at jokes, sitcoms, comedians, and mistakes that others make, but fail to see any humor in ourselves or any mistake we make. Mature people not only see humor in the events around them but, even more important, are able to laugh at themselves. Humor is a sense of perspective which helps us recognize that almost everything can be seen and understood differently. Humor is the ability to develop perceptual alternatives—to shift one’s perspective from pain to pleasure, from total anger to feeling upset. Humor is a powerful agent for change.
