ABSTRACT

Let us now consider states of several nucleons in a central potential well. We shall first characterize these states in the m-scheme in which the quantum numbers of n nucleons are j 1 m 1, j 2 m 2,…jnmn . Each of the j-orbits is characterized by its quantum numbers n and l but in the following we omit them for brevity. We should only remember that when we consider j 1 = jk we mean identical orbits, namely also ni = nk, li = lk If we consider both protons and neutrons, the charge or isospin quantum numbers of the nucleons m r1, m r2, mr should also be specified. We shall first deal with identical nucleons and the case of protons and neutrons will be taken up later on.
