ABSTRACT

The jn configuration with both protons and neutrons offers a more interesting application of group theory. This approach will be used here to introduce the seniority scheme in such configurations. We consider Hamiltonians with charge independent interactions between nucleons without the Coulomb repulsion between protons which must be considered separately. Any charge independent shell model Hamiltonian may be constructed without using explicitly the isospin operators. The nucleon interactions may include as a factor the scalar product τ 1 · τ 2. This, however, could be expressed in terms of the charge exchange operator, analogous to the spin exchange operator (10.64), () P τ = 1 2 ( 1 + τ 1 ⋅ τ 2 ) = 1 2 ( 1 + 4 t 1 ⋅ t 2 ) https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9780203739716/ff034a11-a369-4bc6-a470-f8cf1794dcb5/content/eq2487.tif"/>
