ABSTRACT
This paper focuses on research issues that need to be addressed in order to make performance based seismic engineering (PBSE) a process that can be implemented in engineering practice. PBSE provides an opportunity to develop a focused research agenda that can be prioritized in accordance with a well defined goal. The tasks at hand are to assess the state-of-the-knowledge, identify the missing pieces, and set priorities in a manner that advances PBSE most effectively.
