ABSTRACT

The paper outlines a possible approach to damage and/or maintenance measuring taking advantage of a procedure introduced in France for the assessment of bridge maintenance. Such a procedure, known as I.Q.O.A. (Image de la Qualitè des Ouvrage d’Art) requires an inspection of the work by means of a detailed guide, set out so that even a non specialised operator could be able to carry out the survey. Moreover the procedure combined with a simple structural behaviour model, derived from the Umbria-Marche earthquake observations, could be the basis for the post-event structural safety assessment and economic damage evaluation.
