ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we shall review some basic definitions of the types of matrices that are used in RSM. Appendix 2A lists additional properties of matrices and determinants that are useful in the development of RSM. The method of least squares is reviewed along with the topic of analysis of variance. An introduction to the principles of experimental design and some of the more important properties of a response surface design are given in Section 2.8 of this chapter. Transformations on the response variable are presented in Section 2.9. Listed at the end of the chapter are sources for additional reading on these topics.
