ABSTRACT

Seismic resistant performances at plastic collapse limit state for steel rigid-frame piers of highway bridges are evaluated using dynamic elasto-plastic finite displacement method. In analysis, four pier models designed according to the limit state design method as well as the allowable stress design method are considered. The maximum acceleration response of pier and dynamic horizontal displacement at top of pier are calculated for each pier model, and then the seismic resistant performance for acceleration and deformation at plastic collapse limit state are evaluated and compared with results by the static analysis.
