ABSTRACT
Cyprus has always been confronted with the problem of inadequate water both for its domestic and its irrigation needs. This is due to a semi-arid climate, the average annual rainfall being about 500 mm, and its traditional inclination towards agriculture; tourism is also pressing for more water.
