ABSTRACT

Seepage recharge is an important source of groundwater replenishment especially in arid and semi-arid regions. The recharge due to precipitation may be small, but if there is a permanent surface source of water, whether natural or man made, there is a possibility that water will move from this source to become potential recharge to an aquifer. Typical examples of seepage recharge include losses from rivers or lakes, irrigation losses from canals or through the bunds of flooded fields. In urban situations recharge occurs from water mains, sewers and drainage ditches. Artificial recharge schemes provide a further type of seepage recharge.
