ABSTRACT

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) was established in 1925 and is one of the largest investor-owned utilities in the nation. Its headquarters is in Juno Beach, Florida, and its service territory covers 27,650 miles in all or part of 35 Florida counties, using 58,000 miles of electric lines. FPL maintains a large, centralized reclamation and salvage facility as a separate profit center and as part of its cost reduction efforts. FPL is one of a handful of corporations selected to receive the Employment Achievement Award from the Florida Development Disabilities Council. In order to further its relationship with local rehabilitation organizations in support of their objective of providing job training to persons with disabilities, FPL decided to hire a group of people with a wide range of disabilities to supplement its full-time work force at the reclamation and salvage facility.
