ABSTRACT

Union Pacific Technologies (UPT) develops sophisticated computer software for the corporation's operating companies and aggressively pursues research in new technologies. The company also has expanded the scope of its commercial activities outside of Union Pacific. UPT continues to assist the Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico (FNM), the national railway of Mexico, with the installation of computer software similar to that used by Union Pacific Railroad. During 1993, UPT installed a new yard management system at the FNM's 17 largest yards. UPT also helped the FNM upgrade its central computer facility in Mexico City. UPT focused on persons with limited or no vision. These individuals go through a year's training and job hardening program called Associates for Disabled Programmer Training (ADEPT), provided by Goodwill Industries. When ADEPT program graduates are assigned to their internships, monthly evaluations are prepared by their supervisors and self-evaluations are completed by the interns.
