ABSTRACT

Jahgin RCC dam is the first large RCC dam in Iran. It is located in a remote area at the south-east of the country, in a region with extremely difficult working conditions. One example is the high air temperature during the whole year but particularly in the summer, when day temperature peaks more than 50°C every day. Another difficulty is the lack of water, which has required a careful management of the few seasonal floods. The paper describes the methods of construction that have been finally implemented at Jahgin and the optimization of the plant layout compared to the originally planned methods. The description of the aggregates production and its quality control, the design of the cooling plants and the concrete transportation systems are some of the topics of the paper.
