ABSTRACT

The design of the Ibiur Dam, in the province of Guipúzcoa, started with its corresponding alternative study, which came to the conclusion that the most suitable option was a straight-in-plan roller compacted concrete gravity dam and this solution was adopted when its basic project was drawn up. After some time, when the moment to define the technical clauses that would govern the bidding for the dam works came, updating and going over these conclusions were judged necessary, once again calling for the construction alternatives to be compared. In view of the comparison carried out, we reach the conclusion that, in the case of the Ibiur Dam, and bearing in mind all the existing circumstances, the option of building it using conventional vibrated concrete is more advantageous.
