ABSTRACT

The Ghatghar Pumped Storage Scheme is presently under construction in India. The project has a total of three dams, two small dams that form the upper reservoir and a larger dam that creates the lower reservoir. All three with be RCC dams.

The Saddle dam is the first of the three dams. It was completed in May 2003. As with many RCC projects being introduced into a new country, difficulties were encountered with the full-scale trials. After several parameters and methodology changes has been made, the construction of the Saddle dam was a success and it was clear that RCC dams can be constructed in India.
