ABSTRACT

The Zhouning hydropower project is the second stage in the Muyangxi river cascade hydropower development. The drainage area at the dam site is 511 km2. The Zhouning hydropower project has a total storage capacity of 47 million m3 and an installed capacity of 250 MW. The RCC gravity dam is 206 m long at its crest, with a maximum height of 73.4 m. The dam is consisted of overflow section and right and left retaining sections. The total quantity of RCC is about 160 X 103m3, which accounts to 83% of the whole dam concrete. During the Zhouning project design, more attentions have been paid on some critical problems, such as layout of RCC gravity dam, seepage prevention type, temperature control and vertical joints arrangement. The project has been developing smoothly since the beginning of the work in Oct. 2001.This paper briefly introduces the issues concerning layout of the Zhouning RCC gravity dam, section and structure design, seepage prevention type and vertical joints arrangement.
