ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the analytical representation of angle factors and with methods by which numerical values of the quantities can be determined. The angle factors for diffuse interchange are represented in terms of area integrals when one or both of the participating surfaces are finite. The chapter describes the expressions that relate the angle factor to the shape and the orientation of the participating surfaces and illustrates the application of these expressions. It demonstrates that the basic equations of definition, which involve area integrals, can be rephrased in alternative and more convenient forms, which involve contour integrals. The chapter discusses certain shorthand methods of determining angle factors and provides in graphical form a catalogue of available angle-factor information. The angle factors for diffuse interchange are represented in terms of area integrals when one or both of the participating surfaces are finite.
