ABSTRACT

The basic concepts of time management involve an analysis of time habits, development of a systematic action plan with proper goals and priorities, elimination of time wasters and procrastination, and the ability to create and manage personal and group time. The systematic approach to time management should begin with an analysis of present approach to time management. Developing an action plan is very important. The information derived from analyzing past time management habits will help to develop action plan for effective use of time. Setting priorities enables one to do what should be done instead of dealing with what comes along. A time waster is anything that prevents one from achieving objectives effectively. Time wasters can be grouped by the principal management functions in which the time wasting activity occurs. Richards and Mackenzie have listed 40 of the more common time wasters, grouped by management function.
