ABSTRACT

For decades, some form of execution planning has been practiced in building new projects or modernizing existing facilities. Earlier, this planning generally took the form of lists of activities presented as some type of schedule. This became the project execution monitoring tool. As the 1990s approach, industry still sees a wide variety of project execution plans, and with it a continually forward-looking attitude on project execution planning. A proactive identification, analysis and documentation of key project parameters and of expected beneficial or adversarial key events/activities, at any point in time during the project execution period, that may impact on the decision making process and the well-being of the project. The four primary parts involve the identification and documentation of the client's basic project objectives and how to address the relative values of these objectives, the roles and responsibilities of the major parties involved in a project, the contracting strategy/plan, and major potential execution impediments and positive aiding factors.
