ABSTRACT

Process and control engineers have a vast storehouse of equipment from which to choose. This chapter outlines types of equipment together with the types of companies that make the equipment, design the control schemes, and explores the equipment into operating process control systems. It describes the types of process controls such as pneumatic, electronic, programmable logic controller, and computer and combination system. Procurement activities for a pneumatic or simple electric system do not represent difficulty for the project. The chapter explains types of firms involved with process control such as engineering/architectural firms and construction firms. Data gathering is the collection of information by means of instrumentation for purposes other than process control. There are numerous consultants in the process control field. Documentation of the process control system is the body of communication to all of the other disciplines, to the field installation groups, and to the owner for operating and maintenance training.
