ABSTRACT

A project involving modularization differs markedly from a conventional project. It might be characterized as two concurrent projects or one subsidiary project created within the main project. To effectively manage the module-related activities within the main project, the use of an identified multidisciplined module team within the project task force is recommended. In general, a successful modularized project requires even more careful planning, more disciplined execution, and earlier than usual scheduling of a number of activities than a conventional project. This must be recognized because of the critical nature of planning and scheduling considerations in a modularized project. The engineering of a modular project requires a different approach, not only in terms of layout and design but also in the organization of the work and the methods and controls used. In developing the module strategy, the team will understand the particular reasons for the decision to modularize the project.
