ABSTRACT

Each year, electronic components offer higher performance in increasingly smaller packages. Countless televisions, VCRs, camcorders, and other consumer electronics products use large numbers of electronic components, sometimes more than 20,000. The reliability of electronic components, and also of electronic equipment as a whole, is influenced greatly by how the components are grouped together. A well-designed component set should be inexpensive and highly reliable. The Design Review (DR) department compiles all individual reports into the Product Project Review Report, which it distributes to the review applicants along with recommendations for further improvements. Recognizing the importance of process control, Matsushita Electronic Components Company long ago began a campaign to reduce the number of defective components. Product quality is determined foremost at the design stage, and the introduction of DR has allowed our design department to devote much more attention to product development. Advances in product and process technologies are ushering in new materials, structures, and fabrication methods which require more specialized knowledge.
