ABSTRACT

On 27 June 1985, the European Union adopted the CORINE program under the responsibility of the DG XI of the European Commission. Organisations involved in the mapping of the French territory were not the same in all regions. Land-cover mapping of the lle-de-France region was carried out by the Institut d'amenagement et d'urbanisme of the lle-de-France region in a 1:100,000 scale, conforming to the recommendations of the CORINE Land Cover program. Computerised mapping was carried out on a multispectral SPOT scene of 11 March 1995. This date was particularly favourable since a strong radiance contrast existed between forests and agricultural plots. Spatial integration of the results was carried out using OASIS and VOISIN programs. The OASIS method was applied to the results of the preceding classification. Land-cover mapping constitutes essential information for environmental management. The CORINE Land-Cover program produces maps with the same nomenclature for all the European countries.
