ABSTRACT

A programme for investigating wetlands was launched in 1996 by the Ministry of Environment, water agencies and a public interest group on hydrosystems. The marshes are localised along many watercourses flowing into the English Channel at the foot of the Contentin isthmus. These marshes constitute a group of digitate landforms, comprising a mosaic of large sized permanent grasslands flat, cut across by channels. The objective was to delineate flooded and wet grasslands, among others, of Voire valley situated in the Haute-Marne district of the wet Champagne region. Manual delineation of a geographic mask is that much better inasmuch as it is based on distinct differentiation criteria. The objective is to identify the boundaries of agricultural plots between chalky Champagne and moist Champagne. Flooded grasslands are mainly found in the Voire valley whereas reed-fens are essentially localised in the borders of lakes in the Orient forest and many ponds of wet Champagne, as well as in the Aube valley.
