ABSTRACT

The possibility of assigning a given colour to a particular value of a digital number provides a kind of sorting that represents a preliminary stage of data processing. Various data processing programs can be used to obtain histograms of the digital numbers of band. Histogram analysis is important in several respects and should be carried out before any processing. A histogram is primarily characterised by its shape. Rarely is the distribution of the digital numbers of an image Gaussian. Radiometric analysis provides a definite method for interpretation of the digital numbers of histogram. The connection between radiometric and geographic methods is thus established. One of the primary methods of transformation of an image is enhancement of the dynamic range. The raw data of an image hardly ever covers the entire range of 256 values available for display. Once a transformation function is defined, colour is assigned to each of the 256 digital numbers and a Look Up Table is prepared.
