ABSTRACT

The panorama of techniques of remediation of polluted sites is obviously not exhaustive and may over time appear quite obsolete given the rapid development of technologies. The topic of 'contamination/remediation of soils and groundwater' has become very sensitive and demands a new area of competence. Well-developed and experimentally validated in neighbouring countries, sometimes within the country, they offer curative solutions and many possible modes of treatment, leading to better and better remediation at lower and lower cost. Concerned with the tools of remediation and management mistakes of the past—taking care of liability already incurred to be more precise. It is clear that the motto of the future should be prevention rather than 'cure'. The primary objective will thus be to protect and manage our environment in full awareness of the cause, by avoiding repetition of the errors of the past.
