ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is a summary of the articles from 1987 through the spring of 1992. It includes detailed technical data on the treatment equipment performance and costs associated with their design and operation. The book provides actual data on an operating Seymour groundwater system versus predicted results. It suggests specific information on the operations of groundwater treatment equipment. The book also provides detailed data for specific compounds and treatment sources. It examines the data in one location to make the book a very useful reference source. The book describes the solubility, specific gravity, octanol/water partition coefficient, Henry’s Law constant, carbon adsorption capacity, and the biodegradability of fifty organic compounds.
