ABSTRACT
This paper is about the following problem. Suppose gas moves out of some extended plane subsurface source and travels toward the Earth’s surface with vertical velocity through some homogeneous porous-permeable medium; suppose bulk gas velocity is sampled at the surface over time, and subsurface gas concentration at and beneath the surface is measured at a particular time. Can the gas source be located?
