ABSTRACT

Today’s information society is increasingly being shaped and experienced through mutual engagement between people, institutions and technology. The expansion of a “digital logic” as well as technological infrastructures blur the lines between what is being considered real and virtual, or near and distant in modern society. Simultaneously, diffusion of ubiquitous mobile devices tends to increase flexibility and mobility and reinforces this development. This calls for holistic approaches and critical engagement to understand the “life” of these large socio-technological systems (Slettemeås, 2009).
