ABSTRACT
In construction of any type, alignment is almost invariably required. An experienced technician can achieve reasonable alignment with his eye using simple devices such as straight edges, squares, and scales. Stretched string or wire can provide a reference axis for alignment. Plumb lines and spirit levels produce alignment relative to gravity, which means the local horizontal plane. Optical alignment techniques enhance measuring capabilities and improve accuracy.
