ABSTRACT

Optimisation of O&M of structures and installations in traffic corridors is a complex multidis-ciplinary effort, which is not only limited to a traditional economic cost benefit analysis. Environmental, customer satisfaction and image considerations shall also be integrated.

It is not possible to outline a single parameter of highest importance. However, the utilisation of a well structured O&M management model with a clear definition of the various management tasks at strategic, tactical and operational levels is a first major step in an optimisation process.

If the latter is ensured in combination with the use of:

efficient management methods and tools

continuous O&M development of knowledge and competence

the latest O&M assessment and rehabilitation approaches

the building up of an O&M organisation based on a well structured management model

utilisation of the international capabilities of O&M Management Consultants, Consulting Engineers and Contractors as well as local skills

optimisation of the O&M of structures and installations can be achieved.
