ABSTRACT
This chapter reports some new estimates for deformations in terms of their nonlinear elastic strains. It introduces a new, geometrically more natural measure of nonlinear elastic strain and describes theorems which may be viewed as a priori estimates for nonlinear elasticity. The estimates presented in the chapter can also be applied to deformations with arbitrarily large strain.
