ABSTRACT

MG is not difficult to diagnose if the patient has a typical history of fluctuating weakness and clinical signs . Unfortunately many patients present at onset with vaguely formulated complaints and most doctors do not know the disease from their own medical experience. A doctor 's delay of one to two years is not unusual , and in many patients the diagnosis is only made after unnecessary investigations, e.g. CT-scan of the cerebrum, angiography, muscle biopsy to exclude other diseases. On the other hand, a falsely positive diagnosis is sometimes made in patients with ptosis, blepharospasm (l), bulbar syndromes and somatization disorders (2).
