ABSTRACT
Benzodiazepines bind at sites on GABAa receptors leading to an increased affinity of the GABAa receptor for its neurotransmitter GABA. The increased affinity for GABA results in sustained activity of the ion channel and thus increased passage of chloride ions into neurons.
