ABSTRACT
The Environmental Management System and pollution prevention journey can only be successful if it's continuously focused upon and continuously improved. One could use copis tool or procedure when they first develop their strategic plan, goals, and measures, but it's too easy to get bogged down and lose focus at that point in their journey. Benchmarking can be described as the method of measuring products, services, and practices against the toughest competitors or those known as leaders in their field. To gain the best benefit from benchmarking, one must take a structured approach and do their homework before they start. There are four major steps in this benchmarking process; planning, analysis, integration, and action. If properly implemented, benchmarking can yield dramatic improvements to manufacturing and business processes. EarthAware is an effective environmental education tool that emphasizes a preventive approach to the environmental choices we each face in our daily lives.
